The workshop Applied Data Visualization introduces students to the theory and methods underlying data visualization. Data analysts face an ever-increasing amount of data (→ big data) and rather revolutionary technological developments allow researchers to visually engage with data in unprecedented ways. Hence, data visualization is one of the most exciting fields in data science right now. In this workshop students acquire the skills to visualize data in R both for exploratory purposes as well as for the purpose of explanation/presentation. We'll rely on R, the most-popular statistical programming environment when it comes to visualization and we'll make use of popular R packages such as ggplot2 and plotly. Besides creating static graphs we'll also have a look at interactive graphs and discuss how interactive visualization may revolutionize how we present data & findings.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to efficiently handle problems of data management with Stata, and how to avoid repetition by automating (and programming) tasks. The workshop is not an introduction to Stata, but will feature "best practice" of Stata usage in order to modify existing do-files (or create new ones) to be reproducible, maintainable and efficient. The tips and tricks will refer mainly to data preparation and management, but they can also be used or automation of data analysis. The workshop will present some ideas about these topics, but focus on the interactive work where participants shall learn producing efficient Stata syntax by themselves.

DANS has developed a game especially for researchers: the DANS Data Game. The game gives an impression of the research data landscape and was specially produced for the 15th anniversary of DANS. The game can also be used in Trainings to engage researchers and start discussions. The game can be ordered online free of charge and will later also be available digitally.

Depositing service for corpora of spoken languages which contain a minimum of at least one measured signal that is based on the physical processes of speech production (e.g. acoustic signals, videos, series of measurements, series of pictures).

The Data Management Skillbuilding Hub is a repository for open educational resources regarding data management, meaning that it is a collection of learning resources freely contributed by anyone willing to share them. Materials such as lessons, best practices, and videos, are stored in the DataONEorg GitHub repository as well as searchable through the Data Management Training Clearinghouse. We invite you submit your own educational resources so that the Data Management Skillbuilding Hub can remain an up-to-date and sustainable educational tool for all to benefit from. You can easily contribute learning materials to the Skillbuilding Hub via GitHub online.

The EHRI workshop ‘Trusted Digital Repository’ provided an overview of available techniques to evaluate the maturity in digital preservation of a CHI and the process of obtaining a globally recognised Trusted Digital Repository (TDR) status. Prior to the workshop attendees could fill in a survey on digital preservation that was used as valuable input. During the workshop the attendees were first introduced to the topics and achieved a better understanding of these due to the break-out structure of the workshop. The workshop took place on 26 June 2018 in Vilnius, Lithuania and is described in deliverable D13.4

Data management planning (DMP) concerns the development, execution and supervision of plans, policies, programs and practices that control, protect, deliver and enhance the value of data and information assets. The certification of digital repositories (the subject of D13.4) is an important instrument to improve the quality of the data management infrastructure. Both DMP and certification of repositories are closely related and covered in this report. This deliverable contains the strategy and planning to create and disseminate expertise on DMP for the EHRI community. Input from the research data community on DMP is discussed with and assessed by policy makers from IT-savvy EHRI partners. This input consists of the FAIR data principles, the certification of repositories by means of a certification framework, the data management services provided by the EUDAT Collaborative Data Infrastructure, and the current relevant practices of the invited partners as well as the Dutch National Archives. All these will be used as building blocks for the final roadmap for a long-term access infrastructure of Holocaust digital objects (D13.2).
